MAKING SURE A CAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU OR YOUR FAMILY

WHEN YOU DECIDE TO BECOME THE PROUD OWNER OF A CAT, THERE ARE THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT PRIOR TO ACTUALLY BRINGING THEM HOME.

Firstly make sure a CAT is right for you and or your whole family! It has been said that cats are solitary creatures but this is untrue. In the wild they run in packs and as their cat owner in reality you would substitute for this. Although they  love their time alone (as we all do) their main need and want is for affection and love of the person who cares and feeds them. Now of course there are cats out there that are solitary and don’t seem to want this attention I speak of but maybe you could be the one to change their minds.

Ask yourself some serious questions based on your lifestyle, job, available time and to be honest your own personal nature. Ask questions about the cat…are they friendly, do they like kids and other animals (if that pertains) do they have any health issues that require extra care…. these are important to know before you chose your cat (or they choose you) lol.

Most importantly pet the cat, hold it, see how it reacts to you. Don’t base your decision only on the color or looks of the cat but on its temperament and personality……Hopefully this will lead you to “The One”…your best little buddy.

KEEPING YOUR CAT HEALTHY

TO ME THIS IS A NO BRAINER!

Take your cat to the vet for regular check ups!! They are part of your family now and deserve to be cared for in the same way. Now I know there are circumstances where this is not possible. There being so many cats and not enough homes. That is why it is so important to keep your cat as an indoor cat. They will stay healthier longer and be kept safe from all of the dangers of the outdoor world.

Brushing and of course petting your cat daily will not only ensure their beautiful fur coat and adoration for you, but will keep you aware of any lumps and bumps, sore spots and other issues that might occur through the years.

This on can be a bit hard but … MONITORING THEIR LITTER BOX AS YOU CLEAN IT!! Knowing how much they go, the size and texture  is actually really good to be aware of as this is usually one of the first signs of cat issues….Remember this is all done with your fur babies health in mind..LOL

Decide what food is best for your cat. I know this can be largely based on what we all can afford…Usually for most cats its a mixture of some dry and once in a while wet. But I would encourage you to ask your vet or do some research on the ingredients that you want to feed your baby. (Hint protein …real meat, should be high on the list. Also these days if you find a great pet store to buy your food the people in there can be very knowledgeable.

A HEALTHY CAT MEANS A LIFETIME OF LOVE….FOR BOTH OF YOU!

KEEPING YOUR CAT HAPPY

WELL THIS ONE IS PRETTY EASY

Set up special places for them to hang out. Maybe a cat tree or a nice warm bed, by a window is always a great place to be for a cat. Toys and stimulation will go a long way in keeping your cat happy and content. Pet, cuddle and talk to them…be a CRAZY cat person. I whisper in the ears of my cats everyday and they love it!! Cats are special intuitive creatures.

SIDE NOTE CLEAN THEIR LITTER EVERYDAY….Preferably every morning… this will keep them very happy and you as well.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CAT THROUGH BONDING MOMENTS

SPECIAL MOMENTS YOU CAN HAVE

There are moments through out your lives together that can define what kind of relationship you will have with your cat. Like when you are not feeling well and they lay endlessly by your side. Or first thing in the morning when it is so quiet and they have missed you through the night a face bump or kitty kiss is is in order. Quiet nights on the couch or the short nap you take in the afternoon when they just can resist crawling up on your chest…..these are the times when whispers of love are in order, belly rubs and anything else that your cat loves to receive from you as a sign of your affection. These moments will ensure a friendship and love to last through the years you will spend together.

BFF’S FOREVER

Conclusion

This information is based on my personal experiences  and love for my two rescue cats. They are both the sweetest, talky “little monkey’s”. They were adopted by us two years apart from different places , and instantaneously became a huge part of our family. They became the best of buddies after just meeting for seconds and have made my life so much better.  I just really want people to know that cats can be…

MAN’S BEST FRIEND AS WELL.

  1. I love this… We are a cat family. I applaud you for getting a rescue cat. Many people don’t realize that there are as many or more cats who need adoption than dogs. Keeping them healthy is vital. Its easy to take your cat for granted and assume everything is alright. But as you’ve said above caring for your cat definitely means staying on top of things with preventative care.

  2. Thanks for sharing this with us. I never thought of cats being a pack animal. I always saw my baby as a independent animal, but it looks like she enjoys our time together just as much as i do.
